Porsche 928 wanted
And for my next trick - I will be buying and running a Porsche 928 for a few months and writing about the experience.
Next week (lockdown rules permitting and between work and home commitments), I will be off looking for a car that I have liked on and off for years, a Porsche 928. I had a lovely air-cooled 911 - the car that the 928 was supposed to replace and it was probably the best car I have owned so far. We also owned a Cayman and that was just the most perfect sports-car - but that was new, so not a scary proposition like the 928.
The 928 went through a few iterations - it was once the car of the year in the 1970’s and I believe it was the only sportscar to hold that accolade.
I generally buy mid to low mileage cars, so want to buy one under 60k miles, sub 20k purchase price and as these are complex weapons, I will buy from a dealer.
I have already created the decision table, searched the usual websites and spotted an 83 928s with just 51k miles and an interesting history.
In a good colour, silver, with black hide and cream carpets - cream carpets arent ideal, but mats are cheap & it does lift what can be a coal-mine of a cabin.
The body of the 928 still look modern, whichever one you choose, makes the XJS look clumsy but the interiors are generally less appealing.
I asked the dealer to make me a video and asked him to lay out what wants doing, what the deal is for cash and what warranty is on offer.
The garage so far have been great to deal with.
