Labour of Love - then we sell - why is that ?

I have a theory about cars like this personalised Beetle

Someone has a dream, a vision of what all of his creative ideas could unleash on his base car of choice. Maybe you have skills and plenty of time to use them or lots of cash to chuck at a dream project.

The dream becomes reality and the reality is that once you have restored a car to absolute perfection or personalised one like this to beyond anything that the original makers could have dreamed of - you have to get rid.

Either because you enjoy the process, need the money and space to do another, or more likely because you cant bear to see the perfection unravel - with age, miles and car park dings, you just cant bear to see it deteriorate, which all cars do unless you never use them.

I don’t own this car - I spotted it on ebay and asked the current owner who didn’t do the work (it was the previous owner) if I could feature it on this site.

I would actually use this as a daily driver if I could as I think it needs to be used.

I am fascinated by the standard of finish that the customisers/personalisers achieve.

Best route to something like this is to buy from the chap who has done all the work & spent a fortune, or from future owners, like Alex here.

By then the actual cost is just a footnote, a headline, but I suspect its cost more than double the current asking price and someone’s loss is your gain.

The alloy wheels are one-offs for instance - who does that and how much must that cost.

I dont really know why I want it - but I do.

I have asked Alex for some more details of the spec, but I for one cant stop looking at it. Its a cool car and even more so as its affordable - at offers around 13k - the cost of a decent motorbike.

Car is based in Newport Pagnall.
